More kids are asking for video game-related gifts than actual toys for the holidays this year, according to a new study conducted by the Entertainment Software Association.

Researchers say almost 60% of girls and 86% of boys between the ages of 10 to 17 are expecting these kinds of gifts.

Jon-Paul Dyson with the International Center for the History of Electronic Games at the Strong spoke with Spectrum News 1's Mercedes Williams about this shift to the digital world.

He spoke on some of the trending games and devices this season, what the future looks like for traditional toys and how these companies are evolving.

He also discusses how can parents work to minimize exposure in a time of screen fatigue, and what things parents should take into consideration for the age of the child they're buying for.
