The Democratic party leaders in the 24th congressional district have coalesced behind a candidate to take on Republican John Katko this fall. Now, they are worried that national groups are interfering in the race by trying to bring in another candidate with possibly more name recognition. Former Syracuse mayoral candidate Juanita Perez Williams has been circulating petitions, which means she could be on the primary ballot in June along with the party's pick, Dana Balter, a professor at Syracuse University.
