Saving money is always a good thing. It’s even better when it’s also helping the environment.

Broome County welcomed their new solar plant on Thursday.

It's the first of its kind in the area, stretching across 40 acres.

Officials say it's a good start to a better future.

"I think it shows that this area is moving in the right direction,” said Clean Energy Programs Director Adam Flint. “Not only are we facing a climate emergency that calls into question our future as a species, but it's also one of the biggest job and economic drivers in the country.”

There's also a solar credit program which allows any NYSEG customer to get 20 percent off their yearly electricity costs.
