The Greater Syracuse Southside Homeowners Association and Project Soul hosted a Civic Saturday event on South Salina Street.

It focused on teaching children the importance of things like voting, and filling out the census.

The group reminded people who is running in local elections, and sharing information about those candidates.

Organizers said kids have to learn how important it is to be educated when it comes to politics.

"The importance of voting is getting out and making people accountable for who you want to represent you, with representation and you make them accountable. With voting, we create changes," said Charles Pierce-El, Project S.O.U.L vice president.

Project Soul is planning to have more events like these in the future.
