An Oswego County couple is facing animal cruelty charges after the death of a pet.

State police say they didn't provide food and water to a 9-month-old puppy, that eventually died.

Troopers say the investigation began after 31-year-old Shane Goncalves reported his ex-girlfriend, 27-year-old Alicia Stevens.

Investigators searched the home that was shared by the couple at the time.

Detectives say the puppy's crate was full of feces and urine with no food or water. Both Stevens and the endangered puppy were located at a home in Phoenix, but the puppy was unresponsive and later died.

They are both charged with torturing and injuring animals, by failing to provide proper sustenance.
