ALBANY, N.Y. -- A Latham teen is continuing his five year tradition of providing hats to children undergoing chemotherapy as part of St. Baldrick's Foundation.

Jeremy Wernick, 14, and his family set up collections at Sunmark Federal Credit Union and at the Recovery Sports Grill to gather hats for children at cancer centers across the country.

People would either mail Wernick the hats or drop them off at participating locations.

One woman from Illinois sent Wernick more than 100 hats.

"I remember coming up with the idea with my mom and realizing that we needed to do more than just collect money for kids undergoing cancer treatment. I just hope that it puts a smile on as many faces as we can," said Wernick.

Approximately 2,700 hats will be distributed to 16 cancer centers in 15 states.
