NELSON, N.Y. -- A barn burned to the ground in Madison County.

Multiple departments responded to Nelson Road in the town of Nelson around 5 p.m. Wednesday night.

The Cazenovia fire chief says it was tough getting water to the barn because the nearby fire hydrants were frozen.

After the building collapsed in on itself and speaking with the homeowner, crews just let it burn.

The barn also had an attached apartment, but nobody was inside at the time. And there were no other injuries.

Investigators are now looking into what started the fire.
