EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. — More green space is coming to the village of East Syracuse.

A piece of land on North Center and East Ellis Streets will become the first park in the area come early spring.

The village was awarded $139,500 to build the North Center Neighborhood Park.

It was a recipient of the Regional Economic Development Council grant.

The mayor of East Syracuse says the park will be a space for all community members.

"It will have some exercise features to it to help older adults, some of the youth to exercise in the community, but we will also have some tables, benches, place where people can sit, read, have conversations with others," said Robert Tackman, mayor.

Tackman says the park will also include walking paths, game tables and security features like extra lighting.
