There have been multiple instances of vacant or abandoned building fires in the area this month, including the former Putters Paradise location in DeWitt.

Crews there say the property had been vacant for about five years, and it went up in flames just days ago.

Last week, investigators in Oswego also began their investigation into how a vacant house caught on fire on West Bridge Street. Syracuse firefighters put out another vacant home fire on Shonnard Street on Monday. And Monday night, Watertown crews responded to a vacant building fire on Newell Street.

Watertown Fire Chief Dale Herman is urging property owners and neighbors to be vigilant.

"If people have vacant buildings, they should make sure that they're secure and check on them on a routine basis," Herman said, "[and] report any vandalism or unusual things that are happening around their buildings."

Those investigations are continuing. DeWitt Police say the Putters Paradise fire appears to have been set.
