SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- Freedom Machines began donating bicycles to recovering addicts in 2016. Last spring, Spectrum News' Jorja Roman spoke with the founders of the organization about their mission.

At that point, they had donated 90 bikes. One year later, they've donated 300 bikes to help addicts in need.

Freedom Machines is now a recognized non-profit organization. The group has a board of directors and secured a larger space to store and repair the bikes.

The organization first began helping addicts in the Glens Falls area. Now it's expanding its reach to help even more people.

"The opposite of addiction is not sobriety, it’s connection. And through biking we’ve been able to reconnect with so many people," said Freedom Machines Co-Founder Mike Romanowski.

"I was completely lost in the beginning of my recovery, so the more freedoms you get back, the more you feel good about yourself, and it makes you a lot more hopeful," said Lauren Peters, the 300th recipient of a Freedom Machines bike.

The organization is having a fundraiser called Tour de Freedom on June 3. For more information about the event, click here.

You can follow the group's journey on their Facebook page, and you can also find more information about donating or receiving a bike.
