While it's not pretty for the Piedmont, the mountains will certainly see the worst of it overnight. Some good news....temperatures in and around Charlotte will remain above freezing right through the night so any precipitation will be in the form of rain. Unfortunately, mountain temperatures will be just below freezing at the surface and a little above freezing aloft. Those are the ingredients needed for freezing rain. There has already been a few inches of snow in the mountains. Now there is the potential for 1/2 to 1 inch of ice on top of that snow. This could mean big trouble with tree damage and power outages a real possibility. Roads may be quite icy as well. Be safe out there!
