The Watertown community is mourning the loss of a longtime member of its fire department.

Battalion Chief David Lachenauer died on Friday after a long battle with cancer. He was a member of the Watertown Fire Department for more than 30 years and leaves behind a wife and four children.

Watertown Fire Chief Dale Herman says there may be a link between Lachenauer's time working in New York City in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to his cancer development.

The funeral is Tuesday morning at 10. The Watertown Fire Department will lead a walking procession march before the funeral.
