SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Homelessness is a growing problem all across the region, but one group is trying to help provide some comfort.

The Rescue Mission has been providing food to Syracuse's homeless population for more than a century.

Each day, volunteers serve three meals to hundreds in need.

During the holidays, the center usually has some additional help.

This Easter, they had 50 to 60 volunteers come out to feed families.

Volunteers say this shows those less fortunate that the community still cares.

"I want them to feel the love and joy and hope. Hope is the big thing. I feel like they come here. They're sort of down and they want to feel like they're important, like they matter and they do matter," said Michele Dlugozima, a volunteer.

Sunday, the Syracuse Rescue Mission served about 400 meals.

Over the course of last year, the nonprofit served more than 227,000 meals.
