On the road to try to win the gubernatorial race, Cynthia Nixon made her first campaign visit to Syracuse.

Nixon announced her candidacy two weeks ago. On Thursday, she visited the city to participate in a round table discussion with advocates for housing, health care, education, sustainable energy and more.

The democrat said school funding and economic development was a one of the major issues discussed.

Nixon says the people want someone different than Governor Cuomo.

In response to critics who say she's unrelatable, she says that's far from true.

"I'm a lifelong New Yorker and it seems to me the reason I'm running for governor is we need a government that responds to the needs of the people and their beliefs about what their own communities need which is why I'm here in Syracuse and I'm traveling all over the state," said Nixon.

Nixon is in the middle of a campaign tour which also included a stop in Rochester Thursday.
