SYRACUSE, N.Y. — When one thinks about fostering, they might imagine children or even pets. But one group in Syracuse actually has foster grandparents.

PEACE, Inc. is pairing local senior citizens with children as part of their National Service Volunteer Project.

Seniors with a limited income spend 15 hours a week at an elementary school, daycare, head start or children's program.

They help kids with special needs in their daily activities.

However, the children aren't the only ones benefiting.

"It's fun and it's good. I feel good at the end of the day not because it's 3 o'clock and they're going home, but because at the end of the day, they cheer me up and I cheer them up," said Ramon Rolle, a foster grandparent.

The Central New York Community Foundation just awarded PEACE Inc.'s Foster Grandparents program a nearly $9,000 grant.

The money will be used for additional training for the grandparents.
