A fire at a vacant building shuts down a road in Auburn.

More than a dozen firefighters were called to this scene on Perrine Street just after 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

It took them about an hour and a half to get the fire under control while also battling some heavy smoke.

Crews remained on the scene for hours putting out hot spots.

The Auburn fire chief tells us that the building is heavily damaged but still standing.

He says that's mostly because of the material it's made out of. Again, nobody was inside at the time of the fire.

There's still no word on what may have caused it, but an investigation is underway.
