WESTMORELAND, N.Y. -- Sheriff's deputies in Oneida County are trying to figure out who left flyers for the Ku Klux Klan in a Westmoreland mobile home park.

Deputies responded to the Camelot Village after multiple residents reported finding weighted Ziploc bags in their driveways.

They contained flyers soliciting membership in the United Northern and Southern Knights of the KU Klux Klan.

The flyers were left sometime between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol said no threatening language was used, and a crime was not committed.

"When people do distribute their views and opinions, obviously not everyone agrees with them and they're concerning to some people. In this case they're concerning to most people receiving them. But at the end of the day, it's Freedom of Speech," Maciol said.

One resident said they recognize the right to Freedom of Speech but pointed out that the village has a 'no soliciting' rule.

"They're not abiding by the rules of the park here, and they should abide by those rules, right or wrong, they need to get permission if they're going to do something like that. And totally disagree with that. Totally," said resident Robert Mazza.

Although a crime was not committed, investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen anything suspicious. They're also interested in any home security images.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the sheriff's office at 315-736-0141. All calls will be kept confidential.
