The fight against sexual abuse continues to gain momentum all across the country.

Bridie Farrell, a U.S. speed skater, says she was sexually abused at age 15 by Olympic silver medalist, Andy Gabel.

In 2013, she opened up about the alleged abuse.

This past April, she appeared in front of a Senate Commerce Subcommittee alongside survivors of Dr. Larry Nassar.

The hearing addressed abuse within the U-S Olympics and how government leaders can better protect athletes.

But, Bridie has also taken matters into her own hands.

She started a non-profit group called NY Loves Kids in which she speaks out against child sex abuse.

The group is pushing to get the Child Victims Act passed.

The Act would extend the statute of limitations for child sexual abuse in New York State.

And Bridie believes now is the perfect time for change.

"The nation has moved with Larry Nassar. Well Sandusky wasn't that long ago and that was horrific. Like I have goosebumps right now. It just takes all of these strong individuals to keep coming forward and sharing their stories," said Farrell.

NY Loves Kids is hosting a panel discussion this coming Monday.

It will take place at the Cresthill Suites in East Syracuse from 6 to 8 p.m.
