A former West Genesee school board member has admitted to trying to have sex with a 12-year-old.

Cayuga County prosecutors say James Soper pleaded guilty to attempted criminal sexual act in the 2nd-degree.

Investigators say he drove to the Fingerlakes Mall to have sexual contact with what he believed to be a child named Hannah. Instead the person he was driving to was a state trooper.

Soper will serve at least 6 months in jail and register as a sex offender when he's sentenced in August.
