HERKIMER, N.Y. -- 27-Herkimer County Correctional Facility inmates are spending some time at the Oneida County Correctional Facility.

That's because of a water main break from last Wednesday night.

The Herkimer County Undersheriff said the break was caused by normal wear and tear.

The ordeal is expected to cost the county at least $80,000.

It's unclear when exactly the inmates will be back because the state requires a recreation yard, which is being looked at by an engineer.

"Some of the smaller rocks and debris were pushed out with the water so they want to fill that void with a type of cement mixture so it's a stable rec yard again. And we want to get it engineered, approved by an engineer to do that," said Herkimer County Undersheriff Scott Scherer.

The hope is to have the water all-set on Thursday.
