Syracuse residents got another chance to share their opinions about the future of Interstate 81.

The city's Public Transportation Committee held a forum Tuesday for drivers and neighbors. A large turnout of “Save 81" demonstrators were also at the hearing.

The Department of Transportation is looking at three options: a new viaduct, a community grid and a tunnel.

After years of discussion, Syracuse and the surrounding towns continue to be at odds.

"The city believes that the higher standard solution that we'll seek is the community grid approach but we recognize the importance of the environmental impact statement process and seeing it completed,” said Greg Loh, the city initiatives director.

Clay Town Supervisor Damian Ulatowski is one leader pushing for a tunnel.

“If the thought is that it [the viaduct] divided the city at some point, let's rectify that, let's get rid of it, bring it off the table and bring that divide up or that bridge down, not only ground level but underground," he said.

The DOT is currently preparing an environmental impact statement.
