The sun was shining at the Thompson Park Zoo. But the sweltering conditions are not fun for everyone.

Did you know that zoo keepers have special protocols in place to monitor animals during warm weather?

Adding sprinklers, water and more trees for shade in the exhibit habitats.

But the animals also have their own methods for adapting to the heat as well like shedding fur and digging out cool pieces of soil to lay on.

Zoo officials say the best time to visit during the summer is early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the temperatures aren't at their peak.
