After working for almost a few decades, the regional director of the state Department of Transportation is retiring.

Jack Williams spent 35 years working in the Southern Tier and the Mohawk Valley, including 19 as region 9 director.

In his career, he's been a part of dozens of projects, including both phases of the Prospect Mountain reconstruction.

He also worked on the $12 million Route 201 Bridge and the Interstate 81 Welcome Center.

Williams says he has high hopes for the future of Southern Tier construction.

"Being at the DOT for 35 years, I've loved my job, and I've loved every job that I've had here at the DOT and I'd like to see that continue on,” he said.

There's no word yet on who will replace Williams as the regional director.
