NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — Lots of kids were enjoying the water at Donovan Memorial Park on Monday. Soon you'll be able to have even more fun in the sun in New Hartford because the town's parks are getting some upgrades.

Sen. Joseph Griffo announced Monday that $250,000 has been secured for renovations and improvements to Sherrill Brook Park, Washington Mills Athletic Park and Chadwicks Park.

Town Supervisor Paul Miscione says construction is already underway.

"Parks are always filled with people. It's a place people go to meet. There's places for kids to play. Your schools, your parks, those are the things people look for when they're moving to new areas," said he said.

Here's a look at the work being done:

Sherrill Brook

• Dog park upgrades and drainage

• Pickle ball courts

• Upgrade to playground area

• Aluminum bleachers

• Recycling trash containers

• New signage

• Upgrade all outside LED lighting

• Upgrade exterior bathrooms and replace doors

• Improve concession stands

 

Washington Mills Athletic Park

• Batting cages

• Painting the main building

• Upgrade pavilion

• Improve picnic area by the creek

• Recycling trash containers

• New signage

• Picnic benches

• Upgrade all LED outside lighting

• Improve concession stands

 

Chadwicks Park

• Add LED outdoor lighting in new parking lot

• Upgrade pavilions and replace roof

• Install volleyball court

• Repair extended parking area

• Add change machine for the splash pad

• Recycling trash containers

• New signage

• Upgrade all LED outside lighting

• Improve concession stands
