The widow of a man who was killed while working on the Thruway is urging the public to follow the Move Over Law.

October 19 is National Move Over Day. It's a reminder for drivers to slow down and safely move over when approaching stopped emergency or hazard vehicles.

State transportation workers say it's a matter of life and death.

Sally Deming's husband Ron was killed in 2016. She says she's noticed changes since then, but there's room for improvement. 

"They're doing more all the time, which is great. Myself, I think the laws need to be stricter. I think the fine needs to be more."

New York State Police issued more than 13,000 move over violations last year.
