Authorities have identified two people killed in a major crash on the New York State Thruway in Seneca County two weeks ago.

Police said the crash happened just before 12:30 a.m. on October 20 in the town of Tyre, west of Route 89.

Two of the victims were airlifted to a Rochester area hospital, while one other was taken to a Syracuse area hospital by ambulance. Troopers said one victim died at the scene and another died at the hospital.

They were identified Tuesday as Monica Amelda, 61, of Brampton, Ontario, originally from Guyana, and Florie Singh, 77, of Guyana.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed it was a head-on collision from a wrong way driver. The eastbound lanes were shut down for several hours following the crash.

Investigators are looking for possible witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police Investigator David Worden at 315-253-3103.
