Some kids in the North Syracuse Central School District are getting a major upgrade at recess.

This weekend, volunteers helped build a brand new playground at Allen Road Elementary. The project has been in the works for years and the school just matched fundraising efforts to reach its $50,000 goal. The new structure is bigger than the last, has more slides, and is even accessible for kids with special needs.

"When we have something like this for the kids, to explore on, to socialize with other kids, to interact," said David Lunden, Allen Road Elementary principal, "it's an integral part of their day. It's a really healthy part of their development in elementary schools. It's huge."

The playground will be ready for the kids by Tuesday.
