Eight Onondaga County residents have been asked to self-isolate after returning from places with COVID-19, or coronavirus, cases.

The state Department of Health has received the names of 700 individuals who traveled from China in New York state outside of New York City since February 3. Currently, the residents are not experiencing any symptoms of the virus.

According to the Department of Health, the isolation is a voluntary act that will help limit the potential for spreading of the virus. These residents have been asked to isolate for 14 days after their last potential exposure to the virus.

The number of those being monitored almost changes daily due to the ongoing traffic. The vast majority of travelers have been at medium risk.

There are still no confirmed cases of the virus in New York state.
