The day before Thanksgiving usually means mass delays and long lines at the airport, but the pandemic has many people rethinking their travel plans for the holiday.

Inside Syracuse Hancock International Airport Wednesday morning, it wasn't too busy, especially compared to years past.

Most people Spectrum News spoke to say they were either traveling for business or were college students trying to get home after not seeing their families for months. They say they are trying to travel safely with COVID-19 numbers starting to spike once more.

"Talked to my dad and he didn't even want me on a bus back to the city for four hours. This 45-minute flight is much safer," said one traveler.

"I am concerned about the whole coronavirus, and I'm making sure that I'm doing my mask and my gloves and definitely staying six feet away as well," said another passenger.

AAA projects that air travel is nearly 50% lower than last year.
