Syracuse University athletic personnel are taking all possible precautions as they prepare for basketball season to start this week.

Athletes are tested for COVID-19 at least three times a week - once at the beginning of the week, before playing a game, and after.

The basketball programs are also using wristbands that can track social distancing and help with contact tracing. Syracuse University Athletic Director John Wildhack sees potential challenges in the upcoming basketball season.

“If we lose games during the season, it's going to be very hard to make up those games,” Wildhack said. “I think basketball is going to present new challenges to all of us, and you've already seen it across the country.”

The men's basketball team is scheduled to open its season at home against Bryant on Friday, while the women face Stony Brook University Sunday on the road.
