At just 13-years-old, Meghan Cumbers has created her own cookie baking business. But these cookies aren’t for people, they’re for pups.

As a Girl Scout of seven years, Meghan Cumber is no stranger to the cookie selling business.

What You Need To Know

  • Meghan Cumber created "Megalicious Dog Treats" after spending a lot of time baking during quarantine

  • She's giving back to the community by donating a portion of her proceeds to animal shelters

  • And hoping her business will help her reach her goal of the Girls Scout Silver Award

"We sold enough cookies to get enough money to go to Washington D.C.," said Meghan Cumber, of Girls Scout Troop 10752.

But this year, Meghan used her cookie selling skills to bake up her own business for furry customers called "Megalicious Dog Treats."

"During quarantine I made a lot of desserts for my family and Lola’s first birthday came around I decided to make her some dog treats," said Cumber.

With her trusty dog Lola at her side, she says through trial and error she developed her original recipe — with her assistant’s approval of course.

"Lola is my official taste tester. She tests all my new flavors and makes sure I give her one out of every batch to make sure they’re Lola approved," said Cumber.

Meghan says her business isn’t just for fun; it’s a way to give back to the community as she is donating a percentage of the proceeds to dog shelters, giving pups like Lola a chance for a better life.

"She’s a rescue dog from the humane society. She was really skinny when my grandpa got her. Now she’s better," she said.

Living up to the Girl Scout promise to help people (and pups) at all times, Meghan’s vest is covered in accomplishments. Now she’s hoping her business will help her add a new pin to her vest: The Silver Award.

"The Silver Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout at a cadet level can earn. It shows people that you took time out of your Girl Scout adventure to help the community," said Cumber. “Giving back, that’s what Girl Scouts do.”
