The city of Binghamton's 2022 budget is ready, it's a proposal by Mayor Rich David that will have taxes going down.

It was his eighth and final budget proposal for the city as he prepared to make a run for New York State Senate. This year's budget totals $99.1 million.

A little more than 70% of that will cover the salaries and benefits of city workers like police and firefighters. Another $7 million is set to go to infrastructure, including road construction as well as upgrades to underground utilities.

David says repairs and upgrades to water and sewer systems were paid for thanks to the American Rescue Plan Act, saving taxpayers money. That means water rates will stay the same, and home and property taxes will go down for the sixth straight year.

The budget proposal still needs to go in front of the city council. To see the full proposal, you can visit the city's website.
