A vigil was held Thursday evening to remember the short life of Nefertiti Harris, a 5-year-old girl who police say was beaten to death by her mother.

“We here for one reason. That’s Neffy,” said Hasahn Bloodworth, a family friend.

A crowd of loved ones, family friends and people who just wanted to pay respects gathered in front of the field where Nefertiti’s remains were found on Tuesday. Some had tears in their eyes; others were simply too shocked to display emotion.

All of them were there to remember Neffy.

“Neffy was a bundle of joy. She laughed all the time, she played,” Bloodworth said.

“I shed so many tears every time we lose a loved one in the community," said Clifford Ryan, founder of OGs Against Violence. "But when it's a child, that hurts tenfold, 10 times worse."

Bloodworth, the co-founder of Rebirth SYR, and a family friend organized the event. With Bloodworth being a father himself, it hit close to home.

“I got a 13-year-old girl, and if that was her, oh my God, I don’t even know if I’ll be breathing right now, you know what I’m saying?" Bloodworth said. "I know I’m not strong enough to take something like that, so I would not wish this on my worst enemy.”

The outpouring of love spoke for itself.

“To see the amount of love that actually is here for Neffy even though she's gone is just astronomical, and is just, it's just mind-boggling. She got a whole wall right here full of balloons," Bloodworth said. "Just think of the good things that Neffy, just the good memories that she left here."
