If you are the one in charge of food in the home and meal plans, the pressure of keeping your kids and family healthy may weigh heavily on you. With such fast paced lives, it could be easy to grab processed snacks, drinks and meals rather than healthy alternatives. What you think is a time saving move now could have major consequences later though. Things like obesity, brain fog, hyper activity and other health issues all stem from bad eating and limited movement.

Dr. Wendy Scinta is an obesity medicine specialist, author and public speaker. She sees families every day struggling with the hectic life and healthy diet balance. Dr. Scinta offered a lot of super easy tips that you can use at your house to make your families' bodies stay in tune. Specifically, Scinta said “put positive food cues out. Keep fruit and veggies out on your kitchen counter rather than processed snack foods. Make the fruit and veggies look pretty and tempting.”

Here are even more easy ideas from Dr. Scinta:

  • Try to eliminate excessive screen time
  • Have the family workout for any screen time that is allowed
  • Limit eating out to once a week.
  • Eat as a family as often as possible
  • Smaller plates and bowls
  • Eat breakfast every day, start that metabolism
  • Log your fruit and veggie intake
  • Make it a contest in your family

"Don’t ever give up on serving fruits and vegetables," Scinta added. "It takes 18 exposures for people to start enjoying new things. Also, eliminate silent sugars. Especially in sugar sweetened beverages. No sugar sweetened beverage is good. Even if it says 100 pecent juice – it is still largely high fructose corn syrup. So be very very careful to get rid of them. The kids should drink water and when they are younger. Milk — one to two glasses a day.”
