Longtime Syracuse lacrosse coach John Desko's microphone was on, but it may as well have been muted during his weekly press conference Wednesday afternoon.

Desko was asked several questions about star attacker Chase Scanlan's status, but he was prevented from answering them because of privacy laws, according to a team spokesman.

Scanlan, SU's leading goal-scorer despite missing the last two games, hasn't played since he was involved in an alleged domestic incident following a blowout loss at home against North Carolina April 17. Scanlan was originally suspended indefinitely, but then reinstated by Desko on Monday, April 26. His teammates reportedly threatened to walk out of practice if he was allowed to join them, and Scanlan was forced to work out alone with some of the Orange assistants.

Earlier this week, several SU captains were among a group of players who posted messages on social media supporting the fight against domestic violence, but never referred specifically to Scanlan, who's scored 24 goals this season.

Desko says he's concerned the ongoing saga is distracting his team, which absorbed another blowout loss at Notre Dame last weekend. Syracuse (6-5) wraps up the regular season against Robert Morris at the Carrier Dome this Friday, with faceoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
