Jack Eichel is starting to play like the team leader the Sabres need him to be.

Following a 7-1 loss to the Dallas Stars at home last Saturday, Sabres bench boss Phil Housley questioned his team’s effort. Since that call out, his brightest star had shined.

First Eichel had that overtime game winner against the Calgary Flames. Then he went off in his most recent showdown versus Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.

Eichel had four points in the 5-0 win over the Oilers, netting a goal plus three assists, pushing his total stat line to 20 goals with 29 assists. His 49 points now rank him tied at 17th in the league, equal with the likes of Evgeni Malkin and ahead of Patrick Kane.

"Jack has been leading us the right way,” Housley said. “He is playing well on both ends. His defensive responsibilities he has taken that to heart and when he gets an opportunity to use his speed through the neutral zone and attack the game he has done a terrific job. He is creating offensively, he is tough to play against in the offensive zone, he is using his body really well, and he is finding the net.

Finding the net for sure, Eichel's been one of the best at scoring over the last 40 plus days. His 25 points since December 15th is tied with Nathan MacKinnon for the most in the league over that span.

Sabres hope that torrid pace continues to lead to wins, they look for their first three game win streak of the year and a sweep of their road trip when they visit Vancouver Thursday night before the All-Star break.
