More than 100 volunteers spent Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day painting, sawing, and nailing for some Newburgh homes.

Those helping out worked with Habitat For Humanity of Greater Newburgh on different projects, as a way to honor King's legacy of service to others.

"Our homes serve as anchor homes in the community and our mission says that we seek to put God's love into action by bringing people together to build homes, community, family, and hope. And I think Martin Luther King would say that's what he was about," said Habitat For Humanity of Greater Newburgh Executive Director Cathy Collins.

The day of service isn't just for adults. Kids are helping paint butterfly houses that will be donated to a local farm. And helping others is a concept that volunteer Ed Segovia tries to teach his sons Dante and Mason.

"I take them with me to do all types of stuff like volunteering and donating blood and things like that," he said.
