SAUGERTIES, N.Y. -- We are learning new details in the fatal apartment fire that left one person dead and 10 more injured in Saugerties on Saturday.

Police confirm 46-year-old Tanya Conklin died early Saturday morning after flames tore through her apartment. Four more residents of that Russell Street apartment are still in the hospital, and are in critical condition.

As crews worked to cut off utilities in preparation for demolition, police continued to put the pieces together. According to Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra, the wild flames began in a downstairs apartment before spreading to neighboring buildings.

"When we arrived, the structure was fully engulfed," Sinagra said.

By the time first responders arrived, Conklin was already dead. She was located in a back bedroom.

On Monday, Price Chopper set up a donation center for the Conklin family. Thousands of dollars have already been raised.

A 17-year-old family friend, who was staying at Conklin's apartment remains hospitalized. Police say she jumped from the second story and was treated for facial injuries suffered from the fall and burns. As for the family of five living in the apartment in which the fire originated, three, including a 10-year-old boy, remain hospitalized and are in critical but stable condition at Westchester Medical Center.
