Local politicians are weighing in on how they feel about President Donald Trump's decision to pardon Chris Collins.

Democrat Nate McMurray, who challenged and lost to Collins in 2018, responded to the pardon in a string of tweets Tuesday night.

In one of them, he called Trump's decision "disgraceful."

He went onto say, "No justice. No ethics. No dignity. Every member of the @gop with any honor left in them must denounce this immediately."

“Chris Collins betrayed his oath to the Constitution and violated the trust of the people of WNY. He admitted his guilt - to crimes committed on the White House front lawn. So much for the party of law and order. Chris Collins deserves no mercy or a get-out-of-jail-free card,” Assemblyman Sean Ryan tweeted.

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul tweeted, "Another Trump crony gets a free pass after breaking the law. This is brazen corruption. Rules don't apply anymore?"

Democratic Chair Jeremy J. Zellner also denounced the pardon.

“Donald Trump raised taxes on Western New Yorkers so he could cut them for the wealthy. He tried to repeal the Affordable Care Act and strip health care from our hard-working families. And now Donald Trump has taken away the justice that was delivered by a court of law after Chris Collins betrayed the trust of the people in NY-27. If anyone needs a reminder as to why Erie County voted resoundingly for Joe Biden, this is it.”

Spectrum News has reached out to Republican Congressman Chris Jacobs, who won both the special election to replace Collins, and the regular election for the full term, for comment. We have not yet heard back.
