ROCHESTER, N.Y. — More than half a dozen families are displaced after an apartment fire on the city's northeast side.

Officials say the call came in at 7:10 a.m. for the fire on Portland Avenue near Lux Street. Smoke could be seen from miles away.

Authorities say there were no serious injuries. Some residents were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Firefighters were able to salvage some items from the first floor, but most residents lost all of their possessions.

The damage was so significant that the entire structure had to be torn down.
