PITTSFORD, N.Y. — For the perfect Pittsford Panthers that winning culture starts at the top with head coach Donovan Lopez and assistants Kristen Malecki and Katie Callahan running the show.

"They always push us to work our hardest, even if we don't see anything that's wrong they always point it out to us right away," said junior Ellie Mooney. "We have to do everything perfect."

Outscoring their opponents 191-64 the Panthers say that attention to detail is how they managed to escape the regular season unscathed.

"Love it, that's our motto this year, we have to love it," said senior Michelle Messenger. "We have to want to do the little things, we have to want to win, we have to work hard and we have to know that everybody who plays us is trying to beat us."

"Yeah we definitely feel like there's a target on our back, but it just makes it all that better to work harder and work better and have the best games we possibly can because we know other people are trying to play well against us too," said senior Courtney Burke.

The Panthers have chemistry down to a science. Most of the players participate in soccer, basketball and field hockey together in the offseason.

"I think we're all really close, we're all friends and that's really important for us," Mooney said.

"We all get along so well, I think that's one of the great things we have here, we're all good teammates and we all work together well," Burke said.

Pittsford captured the state title in 2017 and while the goal is to repeat, the Panthers say that they still have a lot to accomplish before sending off their 12 seniors.

"Our coach always says 'this is your seniors' year,' this isn't my team yet so we just need to play for our seniors and as a team together," Mooney said.

"We're looking to do well in sectionals we just want to have a good sectional season," Burke said.

"We want a repeat of last year, I mean, winning is definitely the best feeling," Messenger said.

The Panthers begin their defense of that state title this Saturday when they enter sectional play as the top seed in Class A.
