ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Despite the holiday, hundreds flocked to the Rochester Public Market for the summer weekend garage sales.

It made for a special day for one garage selling duo.

"We're not doing bad, all things considered," Vendor Terry Sharpe said. "Well worth coming here."

Sharpe has been garage selling most weekends for the last 30 years.

“It’s a hobby that doesn’t really cost money; we actually make money at it a little bit, and it’s kind of like the thrill of the hunt,” Sharpe said.

And a few years ago, he started getting some help from Ali Palmer.

“We go to garage sales all the time, estate sales, and really anything we can make some money on we’ll buy, we don’t really have a niche we stick with,” Palmer said.

But what brings them both to work on a holiday? Sharpe says, what else would he do on Father’s Day?

“Bonding with your kids is very, very important," Sharpe said. "And my daughter is actually one of my best friends.”

That’s right. They’re a father-daughter duo.

“We bond, have a great time together," Palmer said. "So we figured today of all days, spend some time, father-daughter time that we just love.”

She helped him out one day six years ago, and was instantly hooked. But Sunday was extra special; a Father’s Day gift more precious than any tie or mug.

“It makes me feel wonderful," Sharpe said. "It may not be everybody’s first choice, but it’s something we love to do, we love doing it together.”

And Palmer says she couldn't agree more.

“Happy Father’s Day Dad, you’re my hero," Palmer said. "I love you, and I love spending time with you.”
