TOWN OF LYONS, N.Y. — The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is addressing recent complaints of animal cruelty in the town of Lyons.

Sheriff Barry Virts addressed the media Monday afternoon with District Attorney Mike Calarco after a video on the internet drew attention to a homeowner and his dogs.

The sheriff's office received hundreds of calls reporting the video, saying the dogs were in poor conditions.

Virts says based on several visits to the home in question, the dogs were found to be in good health.

Calarco says the animals were in good spirits with no signs of frostbite or emaciation and shelter was readily available to them.

He says the sheriff's office can only make an arrest if the animals are in imminent harm or danger.

The owner was given some tips on how to improve on being a pet owner.

The investigation is not over, however.

Virts says the Lyons Animal Control officer is going to be following up to make sure all 12 of the dogs at the residence are licensed and vaccinated.
