ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Rochester Police Department is in the process of upgrading all of its body cameras.

The current vendor is providing the new models at no additional cost.

One of the new features is a muted 30 second pre-record function. Once an officer hits the record button, the device will attach the previous 30 seconds to the file for analysis.

With the previous model, a clip was used to attach the camera, but now a magnetic system is in place.

Should an officer get tangled, the magnet will automatically release.

Upgrades are expected to be fully in place by June 1st.
