Multiple agencies responded to a two alarm fire at the Village Apartments in Spencerport at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Friday.

According to officials, two people were seen hanging from windows when firefighters arrived to the scene. In total, five people were rescued from the building. One person is listed in serious condition.

Firefighters were able to enter the building and extinguish the blaze, but the structure sustained major damage.

“It’s very devastating we’ve lost so much, the whole building,” says Annie Wilder, a resident living in the complex for almost 14 years; luckily she was away during the fire.

“I was out doing errands with my husband so we didn’t know about it until we returned home.”

The building consists of eight units, four on top and four below.

Wilder says she was informed that her apartment was right next to the one that first caught fire, “It went haywire after that the fire was very fast,” said Annie who lost everything. “I feel bad for everybody but hopefully we can get a new start.”

Fire officials said that the apartment complex is uninhabitable.

The Monroe County Fire Bureau is investigating the cause of the blaze.
