ALBANY, N.Y. — There hasn't been any definitive indication so far in terms of what will happen to the late Rep. Louise Slaughter's congressional seat.

State Assembly Deputy Majority Leader Joseph Morelle, D-Irondequoit, hasn't ruled out running for Congress this fall.

Morelle said Wednesday that he hasn't made a decision one way or the other, but plans to explore his options in the near future.

"We are in the middle of petitioning, so I owe it to people who have called and have talked about it and have raised it with me. Obviously I owe them the opportunity to make the case," said Morelle.

Petitions must be filed by April 12.

Morelle, whose daughter passed away last year, said the most important consideration will be his family.
