ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Wayne County doctor facing federal child pornography charges appeared in federal court in Rochester Friday morning.

Dr. David Blasczak, 69, who ran a practice at Clyde Family Health Center, is charged with receipt and possession of child pornography.

Judge Feldman determined that Blasczak did not qualify for appointed counsel because he has $400,000 worth of assets in his retirement account. However, Blasczak has been unable to pay for counsel because his money is frozen by another judge in his divorce proceedings. He is scheduled to appear in matrimonial court on April 4.

Judge Feldman said he hopes to have the financial matters resolved by then.

Investigators say Blasczak had thousands of images and videos of child pornography stored on his computer and other electronic devices.

According to court paperwork, he admitted to taking pictures of naked children at his Clyde practice. He told parents that the photographs were for medical research.

The US attorney's office says Blasczak also admitted sexually abusive behavior toward friends of his children while they were over for sleepovers at his home.

Blasczak has been held in the Livingston County jail since his arrest in January.
