Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo announced Tuesday evening that Amazon will be opening a distribution center in Monroe County.

The 70,000+ square foot facility will be located on Clay Road in Henrietta and is expected to create a significant amount of jobs.

It will be the company's third distribution center in New York state.

The lease was signed on Tuesday, and according to officials, the center is targeted to open in the next 120 to 180 days.

"It's about business development, it's about jobs." said Dinolfo. "This is a huge win for Monroe County. The deal is signed, we have an inked lease. The fact that Amazon is coming here, other companies will look at Monroe County."

Financial analyst George Conboy agrees, saying more businesses are likely to follow Amazon's lead, potentially resulting in more jobs in the region.

“I think it’s a safe bet that with Amazon seeing Rochester as a good site for a location—you might find other similar high tech companies looking at Rochester as good site for their operation as well,” said Conboy.

He says it's difficult to project how many jobs the facility will actually create, as Amazon is known for automation.

“Never the less, what they spend on putting up the facility, what they spend on automating the facility, staffing the facility, and the coming and going of goods and employees, it should be a shot in the arm in the region,” Conboy added.
