ROCHESTER N.Y. – For the fourth year in a row, the city of Rochester is taking part in the highest level of U.S. professional cycling.

The MVP Health Care Rochester Twilight Criterium is part of the USA Cycling’s Professional Road Tour, and fans are happy to take part in showing their ultimate support for adult, teen and kid racers.

In attendance, Jim Mossey of Rochester said, “It’s a great event for the city of Rochester and it’s just the excitement—I mean, the kids. The kids are going to race on the little wheels here in a little bit, how exciting is that?”

Yes, the event not only features top male and female athletes from the U.S., but from around the world, and new this year is the ‘Big Wheel Kids Race.’ It’s a modified smaller course, free for children who participated.

Nathan Polselli and his wife Dina recently moved to Rochester and were excited to bring their son Dmtri to the races and participate in the kid races.

“My kid, he sees the motorcycles, the bicyclists and he tried the big wheel earlier—there’s a lot stuff happening in this city and you just got take advantage of it,” said Polselli.

Hundreds of spectators did just that, flooding downtown Rochester to watch the one-mile course that includes nine turns that start and end on the Broad Street Bridge.

Rory Heinlein says it’s important to get kids racing early, as they could one day compete professionally.

“So as us older racers get old and move on you have to bring in some new blood, so it’s kind of tough because there is so much completion for children so where are they going to put their time and attention? Getting them in early is a good thing,” said Heinlein.

The cycling event is produced by Full Moon Vista Bike & Sport located on University Avenue, and MVP Health Care is the new title sponsor.
