A Nunda man is facing 5 to 14 years in prison for assaulting his 11-week-old son.

The Livingston County District Attorney's Office announced that 35-year-old Brock Hyde pleaded guilty to reckless assault of a child and assault in the 2nd degree a day before his trial was set to begin.

The incident occurred at the end of November. Hyde admitted to slamming the child's head against a hard surface, causing a serious injury to the brain. He also admitted to intentionally breaking his son's ribs.

DA Brian McCaffrey called it one of the most heinous crimes a person can commit.

"He brutally assaulted this young child and the severity of these injuries will need to be monitored for years to come," said McCaffrey.

Hyde will be sentenced August 7th.
